JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Metrologist is expected to perform include:

  • Developing and evaluating different calibration systems
  • Measuring characteristics of objects, substances or phenomena such as length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, luminous intensity and derived units of physical or chemical measure
  • Identifying magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms
  • Redesigning or adjusting measurement capability to minimize errors
  • Developing calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science
  • Understanding the technical analysis of measurement problems and accuracy and precision requirements
  • Directing engineering, quality and laboratory personnel in design
  • Taking care of the manufacture, evaluation and calibration of both measurement standards and instruments
  • Testing systems to ensure selection of approved instrumentation
  • Advising others on methods of resolving measurement problems 
  • Exchanging information with other metrology personnel through participation in government and industrial standardization committees and professional societies​

  • It is a desk job
  • Need to handle a team of laboratory personnel
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs may be available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Preferably, M.Sc.​ in mathematics/physics

  • Skilled in measuring characteristics of objects
  • In-depth knowledge of length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, luminous intensity, etc.
  • Knowledge of derived units of physical or chemical measure

  • Skilled in developing calibration methods and techniques
  • Skilled in testing systems to ensure selection of approved instrumentation
  • Proficient in advising on methods of resolving measurement problems
