JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Mineralogist is expected to perform include:

  • Examining, analysing and classifying minerals to determine their composition and internal structure
  • Conducting microscopic, X-ray, spectroscopic and other examinations of minerals to determine their composition
  • Performing chemical analysis of minerals
  • Rendering advice on economic exploitation of mineral deposits

  • It is a desk job

Working hours

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Preferably, Bachelor's in geology

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Skilled in using microscopes, mapping software, compasses, picks and rock hammers or chisels
  • Knowledge of chemical composition, structure and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo
  • Knowledge of relevant tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of practical application of engineering science and technology
  • Knowledge of different types of minerals, their classification, composition and internal structure
  • Skilled in conducting microscopic, X-ray, spectroscopic and other examinations 
  • Skilled in performing chemical analysis of minerals
  • Skilled in analysis of rocks, mineral, metals, mineral products and synthetic materials
  • Knowledge of physical and physio-chemical techniques such as XRD, DTA, optical spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence, etc.
