JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Civil Engineer, Railways is expected to perform include:
  • Planning, organizing and supervising the maintenance and laying of railway tracks along with construction of bridges, roads, buildings, sheds, etc. according to the prescribed specifications
  • Surveying area(s) with the assistance of surveyors to collect necessary details such as soil condition, rivers, drains, course of water, localities and villages en route, etc.
  • Inspecting the track and other projects during and after the construction to ensure conformity to the prescribed standards
  • Planning projects in a way to protect the track and bridges during floods, landslides, etc.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Minimum - Diploma in Civil Engineering or B.Sc with Physics & Mathematics or B.Sc (Hons) in Physics with Mathematics or B.Sc (Hons) in Mathematics with Physics

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in designing work on the basis of collected data, estimating costs and submitting them to the authority concerned for approval
  • Adept at preparing or getting detailed drawings prepared by the architect and planning their execution
  • Well-versed in arranging for labour, material, machinery, appliances, etc.
  • Proficient in getting the embankment consolidated, levelled and ballasted
  • Adept at getting the sleepers and rails laid in position and fish plates screwed to join the rails
  • Well-versed in ensuring that all the work done under their supervision is as per the prescribed standards
  • Proficient in supervising the construction, repair and maintenance of buildings, railway stations, bridges, platforms and other railway structures
  • Knowledge of constructing tunnels and laying the track through them
