JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks an Archivist is expected to perform include:

  • Acquiring, maintaining and supplying all the reference manuscripts and records of historical importance
  • Scrutinizing the public records and documents and transferring them to archives
  • Recording everything according to historical significance and enduring value
  • Recommending the weeding of all unimportant material
  • Analysing and preparing brief descriptions of contents, records and documents
  • Arranging all the documents in chronological order and department wise
  • Preparing indices, guides, bibliographies and microfilm copies or documents as reference media
  • Acquiring all the documents that are of archival importance from private sources
  • Safeguarding and preserving the records by adopting all modern means such as fumigation, lamination, air cleaning, microfilming, etc.
  • Acting as a consultant to Government agencies, academic institutions and research scholars by locating and supplying the reference materials required by them
  • Preparing compendia on selected subjects relating to public administration for use of administration​

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Preferably, Master’s degree in modern Indian history/diploma in archival studies

  • In-depth knowledge of history and the timeline of all the events
  • Proficient in maintaining manuscripts 
  • Skilled in preparing brief descriptions of all the contents of records and documents
  • Proficient in safeguarding and preserving all the records that are stocked
  • Skilled in modern means such as fumigation, lamination, air cleaning, microfilming, etc.
  • Skilled in report-writing
