JOB DESCRIPTION 
The tasks a Health Educator is expected to perform include:
  • Promoting, maintaining and improving the individual and community health by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviours
  • Collecting and analysing the data to identify community needs prior to planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programmes that are epically designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies and environments
  • Administering the fiscal resources for health education programmes
  • Collaborating with health specialists and civic groups to determine community health needs and the availability of services
  • Developing the goals for meeting health needs
  • Designating and conducting evaluations and diagnostic studies to assess the quality and performance of health education programmes
  • Developing and presenting the health education and promotion programmes such as training workshops, conferences and school or community presentations
  • Preparing and distributing the health education materials, including reports, bulletins and visual aids such as films, videotapes, photographs and posters
  • Providing the programme information to the public by preparing and presenting press releases 
  • Conducting media campaigns and/or maintaining programme related web sites
  • Developing and maintain health education libraries to provide resources for staff and community agencies
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It is a field job

Working hours
  • Offices usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from office to office

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 

Minimum – Graduate in any stream with Diploma in Health Education (DHE)

  • Ability to collect and analyse data to identify community needs 
  • Proficient in administering the fiscal resources for health education programmes
  • Skilled in taking up diagnostic studies to assess the quality and performance of health education programmes
  • Skilled in undertaking health education and promotion programmes
