JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Pump Man (Petroleum Refining) is expected to perform include:

  • Controlling pumps and manifold systems to circulate crude, semi-compressed and finished petroleum products
  • Regulating water flow and chemical solutions through processing
  • Planning movement of product through lines of processing and storage units
  • Utilizing knowledge of interconnections and capacities of pipelines, valve manifolds, pumps and tanks 
  • Synchronizing activities with other pump houses to assure continuous flow of products and minimum contamination between products
  • Starting battery of pumps
  • Observing pressure and flow meter and turning valve to regulate pumping speeds according to schedules
  • Turning hand wheels to open line valves to direct flow of product
  • Signalling by telephone to operate pumps in designed units to open and close pipeline, tank valves and gauge
  • Sampling and determining temperature of tank contents
  • Recording operating data such as products and quantities pumped, stocks used, gauging results and operating time​

Working hours
  • Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization
