JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Blender (Petroleum Refining) is expected to perform include:
  • Controlling equipment to blend straight run of natural gasoline with chemicals, tetra-ethyl leads, and light distillates of crude oil to produce commercial fuel, according to formula 
  • Reading blending schedules specifying components and quantities to be blended 
  • Turning, controlling, to open valves and starting pumps or directing pump man to transfer
  • gasoline to blending tanks 
  • Completing the amount of addition or setting the weighing machine that automatically weighs quantities of additives in ratio to quantity of gasoline
  • Turning hand wheel to open valves to spray jets to admit and circulate specified quantities of gasoline, additives and chemicals in mixing tanks 
  • Moving the controls of pumps, agitators and mixtures to blend mixture mechanically or with air agitation
  • Repeating the blending process
  • Regulating and manning the valves, sampling the mixtures for analysis and maintaining records
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It requires one to be on their toes
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Factories usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from factory to factory
  • Shift system maybe available

  • Proficient in handling control panel in petrochemical units
  • Competent in testing of various chemicals and analysis of the results
  • Proficient in handling petroleum chemicals, machine and equipment
  • Well-versed with testing products for chemical characteristics
  • Proficient in following safe practices at the plant
  • Ability to blend asphalt with petroleum products to improve their quality, viscosity, and performance be designated asphalt blender
  • Knowledge of testing products 
  • Knowledge of operating the control panel utilizing electronic computer and controls to blend products in pipelines
