JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Fluid Management Operator: Rolling Mills is expected to perform include:

• Preparing, supplying, collecting, evaluating and operating fluids connected with rolling operation in steel plant

• Ensuring the right quality and quantity of the fluid

• Operating the fluid system and managing its inventory

• Maintaining waste fluid disposal and taking care of basic maintenance activities associated with maintaining the system

• Collecting samples of both process, fluids and product in order to assess mill performance and stability of the process along with in-process product quality

• Managing the entire fluid system in rolling mills

• Maintaining and monitoring the relevant parameters and re-circulation of fluids

• Managing the incoming supply of fluid and disposal of waste process fluid for treatment

• Practicing health, safety and security measures

• Understanding the risks and hazards in the workplace, along with common techniques to minimizse risk, dealing with accidents, emergencies, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT ¹

• It is not a desk job

• Need not handle a team

• Local travelling is not a part of this job role

• Part-time work and contractual jobs maybe available

• Work from home option is not available

Working hours

• Companies usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING ¹

• Minimum – 12th passClass XII (Science) Pass

• Certified training for Fluid Management Operator: Rolling Mills (programme aligned to ISC/ Q0603 released by Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council)

KEY COMPETENCIES ¹

• Knowledge of maintaining job specified documents

• Knowledge of the safety policy of the company, especially related to the fluids being handled and the associated hardware

• Skilled in testing techniques for sample analysis (like pH, conductivity, emulsion stability, iron content, oil concentration, soot deposition, etc.)

• Knowledge of flow diagram of fluid system for the individual process

• Skilled in making notes on any deviation from desirable specifications of emulsions or tanks

• Skilled in prioritizsing and executing tasks within the scheduled time limits

• Skilled in reading gauges, handling all relevant machines, valves and equipment according to the process chart and/or control plan

• Knowledge of safe operating procedure as well as standard practice instructions relating to the roll coolant/emulsion handling system

• Knowledge of safety measures to be followed and importance of using protective clothing/equipment while working

• Skilled in using devices used in case of a hazard or emergency

DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES ¹

• Training in Analytical Chemistry techniques for the laboratory job of testing samples

• Training in general safety practices and procedures

• Training in hazards associated with handling various chemicals
