JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Fourth Engineer, Ship is expected to perform include:

  • Assisting Second Engineer, Ship in maintenance of main engine, pumps, boiler mountings and other auxiliary machinery on board
  • Keeping watch on the engine room
  • Stoke-holing during specified hours in mornings and nights while ship is at sea
  • Carrying out daily maintenance work​
  • Alternating with Third Engineer, Ship while ship is in port

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Preferably, B.E in marine engineering

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of taking a thorough round of the engine department with the signing off engineer and take over the duties properly
  • Ability to check the inventory and location of all purifier and compressor spares
  • Ability to check inventory and location of pumps spares and tools
  • Ability to check running hours and maintenance schedule of his/her designated machinery
  • Ability to check general condition of machinery and special procedure for operation
  • Knowledge of condition and layout of bunkering system including valve operation, tanks and sounding pipe location should be checked
  • Knowledge of condition and layout of sludge and bilge discharge system including valves and pump operation should also be checked
  • Ability to check thoroughly all fuel tanks, bilge and sludge tank should be taken
  • Knowledge of daily consumption of lube oil, fuel oil, marine diesel or gas oil and cylinder oil for daily record 
  • Knowledge of daily production of bilge and sludge on board for record-keeping of waste water sounding log
