The tasks of a Fifth Engineer, Ship/Junior Engineer is expected to perform include:

  • Looking after maintenance work
  • Overhauling winches and other machinery under guidance of Second Engineer, Ship
  • Keeping a watch at night on engine room and deck​
  • Carrying out day work while at sea assisting senior engineers
