JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Chief Officer, Ship is expected to perform include:

  • Functioning as second-in-command to Captain
  • Supervising activities of deck workers and loading, storage and discharge of cargo
  • Exercising control over deck crew
  • Assigning duties to Serang and apprentices and maintaining discipline
  • Planning and executing work related to loading, storage and unloading of cargo
  • Maintaining cleanliness and upkeep of equipment
  • Keeping watch on bridge in mornings and evenings at sea during specified hours
  • Assisting Captain in navigation
  • Fixing ship’s position by star lights at dawn and dusk
  • Maintaining mate’s logbook, cargo books and store books
  • Training indentured apprentices
  • Assuming duties of Captain in case of an ​emergency
