JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks of a Third Officer, Ship is expected to perform include:
  • Assisting Captain, Ship 
  • Assisting Chief Officer, Ship in navigation and maintenance of life boats, safety and signalling equipment’s on board 
  • Loading and discharge of cargo in port
  • Remaining on bridge while ship enters or leaves port
  • Passing orders of Captain or Pilot, Ship to engine room and relays messages to Chief Officer and Second Officer, Ship
  • Ensuring that helm orders are correctly executed by Seaconny
  • Maintaining log book of all engine and helm orders and other silent features of manoeuvres
  • Assisting Second Officer in fixing position of ship
  • Keeping watch on bridge during specified hours of day and night for ensuring safe navigation
  • Performing day and night duty in port alternating with Second Officer, Ship in supervising
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It is a not a desk job
  • Need to handle a team
  • Local travelling is a part of this job
  • Part-time work is not available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Ship usually sails for 5/6 days a week and works for 14/15 hours every day. This may vary from ship to ship
  • Shift system maybe available

  • Knowledge of loading and unloading of cargo
  • Knowledge of keeping safety equipment’s like lifeboats, fire fighting, signalling equipment, etc. in good condition
  • Well-versed in assisting for positioning of ship
  • Ability to monitor that ships stay on course and do not hit another ship
