The tasks a Harbour Master is expected to perform include:

  • Ability to ensure that efficient management for all marine operations are carried out
  • Ability to be in charge of all navigational aids, floating craft, spares and fenders in the marine department
  • Skilled in disciplining employees in the marine department
  • Knowledge of arranging for periodical soundings and drawings of berths and navigational areas
  • Ability to arrange for changing of fenders at quay berths and west and north quays
  • Knowledge of conducting enquiries into any pollution by the vessel
  • Proficient in supervising anti-pollution measures and collecting clean-up and penal charges
  • Ability to ensure that all shipping correspondences are dealt with
