JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks of a Pilot, Ship is expected to perform include:
  • Directing movement of ship in and out of confined waters such as cannels, rivers, harbours, etc.
  • Boarding vessel outside confined waters
  • Assisting Captain, Ship in navigating and manoeuvring vessel safely into port
  • Assisting Captain in manoeuvring vessel when leaving port
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It needs one to be on their toes
  • Need to handle a team
  • Local travelling is a part of this job
  • Part-time work is not available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Ship usually sails for 5/6 days a week and works for 14/15 hours every day. This may vary from ship to ship
  • Shift system maybe available

  • Knowledge of bringing the ship into the harbour and anchoring it
  • Knowledge about the port, its waters and local conditions
  • Ability to ensure safe passage, berthing and unberthing of ships
  • Knowledge to navigate the ship on behalf of the owner and master of the vessel
  • Ability to handle ships of different shape, size, propulsion, engine, etc.
