JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Chief Flight Engineer is expected to perform include:

  • Planning, co-ordinating, controlling and supervising work of Check Flight Engineer and Flight Engineer
  • Removing defects or deficiencies in aircraft observed during flight and pointed out in flight reports by Check Flight Engineer and Flight Engineer 
  • Studying flight reports and logs prepared by Check Flight Engineer and Flight Engineer
  • Maintaining log to record any statistical data or any technological change made in aircraft
  • Representing operations department in technical conferences​
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1, 2
  • It is mostly a desk job 
  • Need to handle a team of Check Flight Engineers and Flight Engineers
  • Local travelling is a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs may be available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Individual usually works for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. The organization or institution remains open and functional for 24 hours a day and 7 days a week
  • Shift system may be available
  • Overtime may be required

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Preferably, Bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in studying report regarding working of aircraft, fuel consumption, engine performance and its malfunctions, etc.
  • Adept at liaising with engineering department in technical matters affecting flight engineering
  • Well-versed in recommending adequate standard operations in force to Director of Flying or Planned Operations
  • Proficient in undertaking yearly flight checks of all Flight Engineers working under him/her
  • Knowledge of conducting surveys of engineering and refuelling facilities on new routes to be opened
  • Proficient in assisting in investigation of important events like crashes, breakdown, etc.
