JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Traffic Controller, Air Service is expected to perform include:
  • Directing take-off and landing of aircraft at airports using radio, lights and flags
  • Issuing radio instructions to flying crafts within his range for take-off and landing
  • Contacting flying aircrafts to give warnings and instructions regarding landing and information about weather conditions at airfield
  • Guiding Pilots of aircrafts in distress
  • Arranging search and rescue operations of lost aircrafts
  • Controlling airport lights for taking off and landing of planes at night
  • Arranging for rectification of defects in lighting system 
  • Receiving and transmitting flight plans, meteorological, navigational and other information in air traffic control station
  • Operating radar for close watch and identifying aircraft on flight
  • Providing meteorological navigational and other information to Pilot during flight, using radio
  • Answering radio calls from arriving and departing aircraft and issuing landing and take-off instructions and other information such as runway to use, liquid velocity and directions, visibility, etc.
  • Keeping written records of all the instructions issued, messages received from aircraft
WORK ENVIRONMENT 2
  • It is a desk job but one needs to be on their toes
  • Need to handle a team
  • Travelling is not a part of this job
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are not available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Working hours are 10/12 hours everyday for 6 days a week. This may vary from airport to airport
  • Shift system is available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4
  • Minimum – B.E. in Electronics, Telecommunication, Radio Engineering, or Electrical with First Class
  • Passed written test conducted by Civil Aviation Authority , voice test, personal interview and medical test as per ICA 
KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of air navigation, operating sophisticated electronic and mechanical control
  • Proficient in interpretation of meteorological reports
  • Well-versed in reading radar screen
  • Proficient in reviewing flight plans
  • Well-versed with radio calls and radio technology
