JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks an Environmental Compliance Inspector is expected to perform include:

  • Inspecting and investigating sources of pollution to protect the public and environment, and ensuring conformance with central, state and local regulations and ordinances
  • Inspecting solid waste disposal and treatment facilities, wastewater treatment facilities or other water courses or sites for conformance with regulations
  • Inspecting establishments to ensure that handling, storage and disposal of fertilizers, pesticides and other hazardous chemicals conform with regulations
  • Conducting field tests and collecting samples for laboratory analysis
  • Examining permits, licenses, applications and recording and documenting to ensure compliance with licensing requirements
  • Assisting in development of spill prevention programmes and hazardous waste rules and regulations, and recommending corrective action in the event of a hazardous spill
  • Preparing, organizing and maintaining records to document activities, recommend action, provide reference materials and prepare technical and evidentiary reports
  • Studying laws and statutes to determine nature of code violation and type of action to be taken
  • Advising individuals and groups concerning pollution control regulations, inspection and investigation findings, and encouraging voluntary action to correct problems​

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

  • Proficient in choosing the places from which to gather the required samples and information
  • In depth knowledge of laws related to pollution control and waste management
  • Detailed knowledge of legal code of conduct to be followed by manufacturing units and laboratories
  • In depth knowledge related to various diseases and harmful effects of pollutants
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and present the results to the concerned authorities
  • Ability to evaluate the effectiveness or performance of procedures, interventions and programmes.
  • Proficient in advising the client in terms of corrective measures to be taken in case of any irregularities in the processes
