JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Claims Inspector, Railways is expected to perform include:
  • Ensuring strict compliance of railway rules for safety against loss or damages during transit and investigating claims
  • Examining the goods and articles booked for defective packing
  • Inspecting the seals and locks of waggons in transit to check for tampering
  • Calculating the booking charges for correct assessment of charges
  • Attending case hearings for claims made in court

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Minimum - University degree or its equivalent 

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in inspecting the transportation, booking and delivery of goods to ensure strict compliance of railway rules to prevent loss
  • Adept at investigating claims for loss or damages filed in conjunction with booking tariffs
  • Well-versed in evaluating loss by the examination of the traders' or claimants' accounts books and market rates
  • Proficient in determining the responsibility of the railway staff, if any, for loss or damages and arranging for the recovery
  • Knowledge of tracing missing consignments
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 3, 1
  • Knowledge of the procedure followed in the court in case hearings for claims
  • Diploma in Rail Transport and Management
