JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Sports Coach is expected to perform include:

Directing, instructing and providing training in all the operations that need to be done by a sports team or individual sportspeople
Planning and preparing schedules and activities of the team
Delivering the required instructions about the game to all the players
Monitoring all the coaching programmes and sessions of the team
Analysing the participants current and potential performance, needs and aspirations
Planning coaching programmes and sessions
Setting the programme goals that are in accordance with the performance factors and participant’s needs
Designing and planning the coaching programmes to achieve the programme goals
Planning the resources needed for coaching programmes
Producing a series of coaching sessions to meet the individual participant’s needs and demands
Conducting the evaluation of coaching sessions in the best way possible
Following all the organizational procedures with respect to security, materials handling and accidents

WORK ENVIRONMENT ^{1, 2}

It is not a desk job
Need to handle a team
Local travelling is a part of this job role
Part-time work and contractual jobs may be available

Working hours

Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/10 hours every day. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING ¹

Preferably, 12^th
Certified training for Sports Coach (programme aligned to SPF/Q1101 released by Sports, Physical Education, Fitness & Leisure Sector Skill Council)

KEY COMPETENCIES ¹

Knowledge of 2–3 other sports
Knowledge of all the rules and regulations related to the game
Proficient in preparing the players to take part in various competitive games
Ability to play the sport at a basic required level
Knowledge of the various techniques of the sport
Basic knowledge of training curriculum
Ability to provide structured trainings according to the requirements of the sports players
Knowledge of basic first-aid techniques, anatomy and physiology
Ability to assess physical abilities and fitness requirements of different players
Proficient in injury management
Ability to analyse the technical and tactical aspect of the performance of each player
Ability to analyse the physical condition and mental skills of the player, and help them in the best way possible
