JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Braille and Talking Books Clerk is expected to perform include:

  • Preparing braille and talking books for mailing to visually impaired library patrons and receiving books returned by patrons
  • Stamping issue date on book card to maintain record of location of borrowed books
  • Stamping due date on issue card, inserting card and returning mailing label in book pocket
  • Placing books in mailing container and affixing address label to container, and securing container with straps for mailing
  • Receiving and examining returned books for damage such as torn paper and scratched record surfaces
  • Stamping return date on book card
  • Shelving returned books alphabetically by author's name or by title
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1, 2
  • It is mostly a desk job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs may be available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Preferably, Bachelor's degree with library and information science
