JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Mail Guard is expected to perform include:
  • Taking custody of mail bags, parcels, etc. from local mail vans and incoming trains carrying mail at the railway station 
  • Delivering parcels, mail bags, etc. for onward despatch
  • Checking seals and labels for any tampering

  • It needs one to be on their toes
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Working hours are 8 hours everyday for 6 days a week

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 9

Minimum - Matriculation from a recognized board or university

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in preparing the mail list of bags, parcels, etc. to be transferred
  • Knowledge of the procedure to be followed while delivering the parcel to the recipient
  • Well-versed in reporting irregularities concerning mail to the reporting officer
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of how to perform other duties such as the receipt, sorting, and despatch of mailed articles in the RMS office at the railway stations
  • Knowledge of the procedure to be followed while collecting and delivering the mail bags at intermediate stations
