JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks of a Chief Steward, Ship is expected to perform include:
  • Supervising and co-ordinating activities in Steward’s department aboard passenger and cargo vessel
  • Ensuring comfort of passengers aboard ship
  • Supervising workers engaged in housekeeping and meal serving
  • Arranging space for shipboard recreation activities
  • Inspecting passenger areas for cleanliness
  • Observing services rendered by Steward personnel for conformance to company standard
  • Collaborating with Chief Cook and Chief Passenger, vessel to plan menu
  • Requisitioning stores such as food, sundries and furniture
  • Ordering replacements for personnel leaving ship and authorises overtime work
  • Estimating food costs
  • Maintaining necessary accounts
  • Complying supply, overtime and cost control records
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It needs one to be on their toes
  • Need to handle a team
  • Local travelling is a part of this job
  • Part-time work is not available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Ship usually sails for 5/6 days a week and works for 14/15 hours every day. This may vary from ship to ship
