JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Guard, Passenger Train is expected to perform include:
  • Taking charge of the express, mail, passenger or special trains
  • Taking responsibility for the movement and safety of the trains
  • Receiving instructions and checking the particulars of the train, and marshalling order for the trains
  • Examining the signalling and lighting equipment such as the side lights, tail lamps, tail discs, etc.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 10

Preferably, university degree or its eqvivalent

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in supervising the loading of goods or mail before the beginning of the trip, and maintaining the prescribed records
  • Adept at directing the movement of the train by signalling the Engine Driver with the appropriate flag and light signals
  • Adept at writing and submitting a report at the termination of each run and handing over the charge to relieve the Guard or Station Master
  • Knowledge of how to manage the situation during accidents and emergencies to obtain medical and other aid and to take the necessary measures
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of how to assist the upper class passengers in obtaining their berths and seats and attending to passengers' amenities
  • Adept at issuing certificates to the passengers when necessary for the concerned issue or extension of tickets
  • Ability to work in a team
