JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Brakesman, Railway is expected to perform include:
  • Segregating the inflammable materials in the train
  • Receiving and delivering parcels, luggage and goods if experience with a passanger or goods train
  • Checking the train formation, couplings, lights and other safety devices after receiving instructions from the Guard, Passenger Train or the Guard, Goods Train
  • Receiving parcels, goods, luggage, etc. from the Parcel Clerks or the Goods Clerks
  • Grouping the items in the car by the station of discharge to facilitate quick unloading
  • Exchanging signals with the Guards and the Drivers while operating in the ghat section
  • Maintaining a record of the items loaded and unloaded at each station
  • Informing the Guard at the rear of the train when the transfer of goods is completed
  • Assisting the Guard, Passenger Train whenever required

  • It needs one to be on their toes
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs may be available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Working hours are 8 hours everyday for 6 days a week

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 7

Minimum - University degree or its equivalent

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Ability to distinguish between inflammable or flammable objects
  • Proficient in examining the train formation, couplings, lights and other safety devices
  • Well-versed in maintaining a record of the items loaded and unloaded at each station
  • Proficient in grouping items in the car by station of discharge to facilitate quick unloading
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1

Knowledge of how to assist the aged or lady passengers and passengers who are ill in boarding and disembarking while on duty in the mail, express or passenger trains
