JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Conductor Guard, Railway is expected to perform include:
  • Maintaining a reservation chart of the passengers
  • Working to maintain the general comfort of the passengers such as finding their accommodation, arranging for their meals, ensuring cleanliness of the compartments, etc.
  • Receiving a copy of the reservation chart of the passengers from the Reservation Clerk before the start of the journey
  • Directing the passengers with a valid reservation to their reserved seats or berths and preventing unauthorized passengers from entering the compartment
  • Maintaining a list of vacant berths and allotting them to passengers entering at wayside stations
  • Assisting the passengers in arranging their meals or lodging in restrooms at important stations where such facilities are provided by the railways
  • Handing over the reservation charts and papers to the relieving Conductor at his destination station

  • Working hours are 8 hours everyday for 6 days a week

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 10

Minimum - Matriculation or its equivalent with not less than 50% marks in the aggregate

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of all railway traffic and operative rules
  • Well-versed in directing passengers having reservations to their reserved seats or berths
  • Knowledge of the safety regulations to be followed
  • Proficient in maintaining a list of the vacant berths and allotting them to passengers
  • Proficient in reporting to the appropriate authority any complaint which s/he is unable to remedy immediately
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of how to look after invalid, sick and lady passengers travelling alone during the night
  • Knowledge of the steps to be taken to avoid overcrowding in compartments
  • Knowledge of how to arrange the supply of linen and bedding for the upper class passengers
  • Knowledge of how to awaken or remind passengers to alight at their destination station during the night
  • Knowledge of how to assist the Guard, Passenger Train in issuing certificates to passengers for any issue or extension of tickets
