JOB DESCRIPTION 
The tasks a Fire Fighter is expected to perform include:
  • Fighting fires as member of fire fighting force by using fire fighting equipment to extinguish fire 
  • Rescuing people and property from fire and performing sentry duty
  • Visiting the scene of fire on motor vehicle equipped with fire fighting material, water pumps, etc. on receipt of fire information
  • Connecting and managing the hose to spray water or chemicals on fire
  • Using portable fire extinguisher in places not accessible with hose
  • Demolishing the parts of buildings or other structure, as necessary
  • Clearing the passage so as to prevent further spread of fire
  • Rescuing the trapped persons and administering artificial respiration to those overcome by heat or fire
  • Performing other services during emergencies or natural calamities such as flood, storm by rescuing people in danger
  • Manning the hoses to assist police to control rioters, extricating persons or animals from places not easily accessible, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Working hours
  • Fire stations usually work for 7 days a week and 24 hours everyday. This may vary from fire station to fire station

Minimum – Graduation in any field

  • Skilled in using fire fighting equipment

  • Proficient in using portable fire extinguisher
  • Skilled in demolishing parts of buildings in a bid to control fire
  • Proficient in administers artificial respiration
  • Skilled in ensuring that all the fire fighting equipment are in perfect working condition
