JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks an Engine Tester, Aircraft is expected to perform include:

  • Testing performance of aeroplane engines by operating them under controlled conditions
  • Keeping record of various meter readings taken at periodical intervals and interpreting data obtained
  • Preparing engine for test run
  • Dressing and installing engine on test bed using chain hoist and fastening it securely to bed with clamps and other fixtures 
  • Connecting oil and fuel lines, instruments, controls and accessories 
  • Performing test run procedure and running it for prescribed period at different specified speeds
  • Locating defects and rectifying them
  • Reading and recording speed, temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, manifold pressure and other data in log sheet
  • Calculating performance of engine at different speeds 
  • Making minor repairs or adjustments to set engine to required perfection
  • Maintaining test house equipment and calibrating test fans

  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

Working hours
  • Individual usually works for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. The organization remains open and functional for 24 hours a day and 7 days a week
  • Shift system may be available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Preferably, Bachelor's degree in mechanical/automotive/aerospace engineering

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in connecting oil and fuel lines, instruments, controls and accessories
  • Adept at connecting propeller or dynamometer to crankshaft preoils​ and prime start engine according to test run procedure
  • Well-versed with running it for prescribed period at different specified speeds, locating defects and rectifying them
  • Knowledge of reading and recording speed, temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, manifold pressure and other data in log sheet
  • Proficient in calculating performance of engine at different speeds using slide rule, standard formula and curves, and maintaining data
  • Adept at making minor repairs or adjustments to set engine to required perfection
  • Knowledge of maintaining test house equipment and calibrating test fans
  • Proficient in slushing engine and preserving for storage
