JOB DESCRIPTION 
The tasks an Optical Worker is expected to perform include:
  • Cutting and grinding optical components
  • Coating optical components by vacuum deposition
  • Cementing optical glass lenses
  • Applying chemical and spray techniques in assembly of optical instruments
  • Cutting blanks from slabs or moulds and smothering and polishing on machine
  • Etching, engraving and printing metals/ non-metals using photographic or ruling techniques
  • Undertaking line stage and interline stage inspection of components
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It needs one to be on their toes
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not part of this job
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs maybe available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Working hours are 9/10 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week. This may vary from company to company
  • Shift system maybe available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 

Minimum – 10th standard pass

KEY COMPETENCIES 
  • Knowledge of photographic and ruling techniques
  • Proficient in applying chemical and spray techniques in assembly of optical instruments
  • Adept in cutting blanks from slabs/ moulds and smothers and polishes on machine or by hand operation
  • Ability to carry out line stage and interline stage inspection of components
  • Well-versed in the parameters of inspection
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 

Knowledge of making test plates, master and articulate by photographic techniques, thin film multi-layer vacuum deposition for wide bend anti-reflection and laser mirror coating
