JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Carpet Weaver (Carpet & Rug) is expected to perform include:

  • Operating one or more looms equipped with pile-wire mechanism to weave the carpeting
  • Moving the lever to open the shed
  • Inserting a specified number of pile wires through the shed in a sequence to produce the pile
  • Forcing the cop of filling into the shuttle using a mallet and inserting the shuttle into the loom
  • Placing the wax in the holder to lubricate the pile wires as the wires enter and are withdrawn from the shed
  • Starting the loom and observing the weaving to detect exhausted filling packages, mispicks, and irregular cutting of the pile
  • Replacing the exhausted filling, inserting pile wires into the missed loops, and replacing dull cutting blades
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It needs one to be on their toes
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Being self-employed is an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible
  • Factories usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from factory to factory
  • Shift system maybe available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 

ITI graduate

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of operating multiple looms using a pile-wire mechanism
  • Well-versed with the sequence of piles that need to be produced
  • Well-versed in detecting the irregular cutting of the pile and mispicks
  • Ability to replace blunt cutting blades and exhausted filling
  • Knowledge of using wax to lubricate pile wires
  • Good hand-eye coordination skill
  • Manual dexterity
