JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Map and Chart Mounter is expected to perform include:

Gluing the muslin backing or the back board to the paper maps and charts for reinforcement
Spreading the muslin on the table and cutting it to specified dimensions, using scissors
Applying glue to the back of the maps and charts with a brush or by inserting them between the rollers of the gluing machine
Placing the glued side of the sheet on the muslin strip or pre-cut back board and smoothening the surface with a stiff brush and flat piece of bone
Gluing the paper mounting strip to the top edge and oil cloth, reinforcing the strip to the bottom edge of the roll type maps and charts and hanging them on the drying rack
Applying gelatine sizing and varnishing material on the surface of the map for preservation and a good finish
Folding or gathering the maps to suitable sizes for easy and convenient handling

WORK ENVIRONMENT ²

It needs one to be on their toes
Need not handle a team
Local travelling is not part of this job
Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
Work from home option is not available

Working hours

Working hours are 10/12 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week. This may vary from institution to institution
Shift system maybe available
