JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Radar Mechanic is expected to perform include:
  • Installing, servicing and overhauling radar units
  • Studying diagrams and manufacturer's specification and installing radar transmitting and receiving equipment
  • Testing equipment for continuity, frequency, performance, etc.
  • Identifying faults by application of knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems
  • Removing defects by replacing defective parts, soldering or tightening loose and broken connections
  • Aligning, adjusting and calibrating equipment according to specifications
  • Operating and flight checking radar equipment on aircraft and making necessary repairs and adjustments to ensure desired efficiency
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It is a desk job but one needs to be on their toes
  • Need not handle a team
  • Travelling is not a part of this job
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs maybe available
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Working hours are 8/10 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week. This may vary from institution to institution
  • Shift system is available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 2
  • Minimum – B.Sc.
  • Industrial Training Institute Certificate (Radar Mechanic)
KEY COMPETENCIES 3
  • Knowledge of different types of radar and their configurations
  • Knowledge of the set-up, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies
  • Proficient in using oscilloscopes, signal generators, wave meters, pulse modulators, echolox, avometer, megger and other instruments and hand tools
  • Well-versed with hand set-ups for digital tests, recognizing failures and set-up problems, and determining need for appropriate verification
  • Proficient in preparing written reports and making recommendations for procedural changes
  • Technical knowledge of electronic principles to solve basic problems using diagrams, schematics, engineering data and test equipment

Knowledge of operating and repairing other electronic and missile control systems
