JOB DESCRIPTION 1

 

The tasks a Calenderman (Cotton Textile) is expected to perform include: 
Tending the calendering machine for glazing and finishing cloth
Pilling and fitting the roll of cloth at the back of the machine 
Feeding the roll of cloth with its loose end into the calender rollers
Adjusting the pressure on cloth by winding screws on rollers
Observing the gauges to control injection of steam into rollers for heating them to required temperature
Ensuring that the cloth is passing through rollers without any crease
Ensuring that the cloth is uniformly pressed and glazed to desired finish
Turning off the machine at regular intervals so as to remove nails, leather hits, etc. 
Folding the finished cloth at the front end of the machine
Working at the feeding end as Back Calenderman or at the receiving end as Front Calenderman
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1

Need not supervise a team
Local travelling is not a part of this job role
Part-time work and contractual jobs maybe available

Working hours

 

Companies usually work for 6/7 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Minimum – Any Graduate

KEY COMPETENCIES 4

 

Skilled in operating the calendering machine
Knowledge of the process for glazing and finishing the cloth
Skilled in adjusting the pressure on cloth by the winding screws placed on rollers
Proficient in making sure that the cloth is uniformly pressed and glazed to the desired finish
Basic knowledge of process standards and specifications
