JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Shunting Worker is expected to perform include:

  • Supervising the work of Pointsman Railway on the operation of points and setting of railway lines in the non-interlock yard
  • Guiding the movement of the shunting engine in the railway yard for attaching or detaching waggons and carriages to and from trains
  • Receiving directions from the Station Master or Yard Master regarding the shunting of trains in the yard or movement of the wagons, carriages in the yard from one place to another
  • Informing the Cabinman and Pointsman regarding the shunting plans
  • Directing the Shunting Engine Driver with a hand flag or lamp for movement of the engine when the points are set to form trains
  • Supervising the setting of the lines and completing the coupling and uncoupling of the carriages and waggons

  • Working hours are 8 hours everyday for 6 days a week

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 8, 9

Minimum - 10th standard pass or ITI graduate in appropriate field or its equivalent qualification

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in informing Cabinman and Pointsman about the shunting plan
  • Adept at directing the Shunting Engine Driver using a hand flag, lamp, etc. for movements of the engine when the points are set to form trains
  • Well-versed in supervising the setting of lines and completing the coupling and uncoupling of carriages and waggons within the prescribed time
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1

Knowledge of how to couple or uncouple the waggons and carriages in the absence of the Pointsman
