JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Traffic Shunter, Railway is expected to perform include:
  • Marshalling the goods and passenger trains in the station yard according to the instructions received
  • Attaching or detaching coaches and waggons to and from the trains after receiving instructions from the Yard Foreman
  • Shifting the empty coaches and waggons onto the sidings
  • Setting the lines according to the plan and signalling the Loco Shunter to proceed towards the directions indicated

  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

  • Working hours are 8 hours everyday for 6 days a week

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 8, 9

Minimum - 10th pass or ITI graduate or its equivalent

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Knowledge of how to shift empty coaches and waggons on sidings, etc.
  • Proficient in attaching the coaches or waggons by screwing the hooks for tightness or unscrewing the hooks for breaking or re-arranging the train or detaching the engine
  • Knowledge about the formation of train
