JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Boatman is expected to perform include:

Piling boat to carry men and material across waterways while working alone and in groups
Checking boat for leakage and other damage
Mooring boat in a convenient place for enabling entry of persons and loading of cargo
Ensuring that boat's capacity is not exceeded
Maintaining boat's balance on water
Covering cargo if required to protect it from weather
Unmooring boat propels and directing it by means of oars, rudder, pole, sails, etc.
Mooring boat on reaching destination for persons to alight and for cargo to be unloaded
