JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Boatman is expected to perform include:

  • Piling boat to carry men and material across waterways while working alone and in groups
  • Checking boat for leakage and other damage
  • Mooring boat in a convenient place for enabling entry of persons and loading of cargo
  • Ensuring that boat's capacity is not exceeded
  • Maintaining boat's balance on water
  • Covering cargo if required to protect it from weather​
  • Unmooring boat propels and directing it by means of oars, rudder, pole, sails, etc.
  • Mooring boat on reaching destination for persons to alight and for cargo to be unloaded
