JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks an Oil Technologist is expected to perform include:

• Conducting research to develop new or improved processes for manufacturing of oil, soap, vanaspati, paints, varnish, perfumes, essential oil and allied products etc.

• Studying physical and chemical properties of raw materials of oils, fats, oil products, such as oil seeds

• Observing extraction of oil by machine under different conditions and devising methods, techniques and process for analysis and better results

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• It needs one to be on their toes

• Need not handle a team

• Local travelling is not a part of this job role

• Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

• Work from home option is not available

Working hours

• Working hours are 10/12 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week. This may vary from factory to factory

• Shift system maybe available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING ³

Minimum – B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering

KEY COMPETENCIES ¹

• Knowledge of designing and fabricating chemical plants, testing refined oil and other by-product by chemical examination

• Adept at ensuring that finished products like vanaspati and other edibles conform to prescribed standards

• Well-versed with advising utilization of by-products and waste products in manufacturing other commercial products like soap, scents, cylindering of oxygen, etc.

• Adept at guiding and supervising operation of plants and processes to improve rates of output, product quality, etc.
