JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Core Analyst, Petrol and Natural Gas is expected to perform include:
  • Analyzing cores taken from sub-surface earth formations for porosity, permeability, oil or water saturation, combustible gas content and amount of gas by volume to determine productivity of oil or gas bearing formations
  • Cleaning cores with knife or scraper or breaking off outside surface with hammer to remove drilling fluid deposits
  • Examining cores under ultra violet light for fluorescence indicating presence of oil
  • Heating cores in retort, condensing oil or vapours and measuring volume of condensates using balance scales and other instruments
  • Interpreting findings to evaluate productive potential of oil or gas bearing formation
WORK ENVIRONMENT 2
  • It requires one to be on their toes
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Factories usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from factory to factory
  • Shift system maybe available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Minimum – Bachelor’s (B.Tech) in Applied Petroleum Engineering

KEY COMPETENCIES 
  • Proficient in analyzing cores for porosity, permeability, oil, etc.
  • Competent with handling chemicals and in chemical procedures
  • Knowledge of using various tools like knife, scrapers, etc.
  • Knowledge of conducting various ultra violet light tests on cores
  • Well-versed with safety and hazard control in laboratory
