JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Pump-Station Operator, Waterworks is expected to perform include:

  • Operating electric, diesel, gas or automated pumping equipment to pump and route petroleum products through pipelines at main line or terminal station according  to instructions and destination
  • Turning the valves and starting the engines to pump oil through station
  • Reading the flow and pressure meters, turning the valves to vary pumping rate and line pressure according to specifications
  • Turning the hand wheel to open or close the pipeline valves to direct flow of oil to storage tanks  according to grade
  • Directing the flow of oil through station and along pipeline​ according to destination

  • It requires physical activity
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs may be available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Organizations remain functional for 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Individuals usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Preferably, diploma

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Proficient in switching oil to alternative pipelines to prevent contamination between grades
  • Knowledge of inspecting pumping equipment to detect malfunctioning and leaks
  • Well-versed in lubricating machinery, and repairing and adjusting pumps and equipment using hand tools 
  • Adept at recording the pressure, temperature and flow rates
  • Proficient in maintaining records of oil stock and oil receipts
