JOB DESCRIPTION 2
The tasks a Crude-Oil Treater (Petrol & Gas) is expected to perform include:
  • Operating chemical, electrical, and centrifugal oil-treatment units to remove sediment and water from crude oil before transporting oil by pipeline to refineries
  • Opening valves and starting pumps to pump oil from storage tanks to treating units
  • Opening valves to mix specified chemicals with oil, and adjusting controls to heat mixture to specified temperature
  • Starting centrifugal machines that break up oil and water emulsions and drain off water
  • Opening valves and starting pumps to transfer oil into settling tanks where sediment is precipitated from oil
  • Testing sample in gravity- or centrifugal separation machine to determine content of oil specified for pipeline transportation
  • Pumping treated oil into pipelines leading to refinery
  • Cleaning and lubricating motors, pumps, and other moving parts of units
  • Recording data, such as volume of oil treated, operating temperatures of units, and testing results
  • Operating pumps at oil well sites and tending treating-plant equipment to remove impurities from natural gas
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It requires one to be on their toes
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities
  • Work from home option is not available
Working hours
  • Factories usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from factory to factory

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1

Minimum - Graduate in any field

KEY COMPETENCIES 
  • Knowledge of mixing specified chemicals with oil, and adjusting controls to heat mixture to specified temperature
  • Ability to operate centrifugal machines
  • Proficient in cleaning and lubricating motors, pumps, and other moving parts of units
  • Competent in recording data, such as volume of oil treated, operating temperatures of units, and test results
  • Knowledge of operating pumps at oil well sites
  • Ability to tend treating-plant equipment to remove impurities from natural gas
