JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Producer Gas Plant Operator is expected to perform include:

  • Operating producer gas plants for the manufacture of gas
  • Burning coal for metallurgical or other purposes
  • Igniting coal and opening valves
  • Injecting steam and air on red hot coal by blower
  • Watching frequently quality of gas produced
  • Removing ash by operating mechanical ash plough
  • Operating gas release valves
  • Directing gas to gas main for distribution to sections concerned or to gas chamber
  • Recording readings of meters, thermo-coupled indicators and gauges to assess quality, quantity and pressure of gas​
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1, 2
  • It requires physical activity
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

Working hours

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4, 5
Preferably, B.Sc. in chemistry

  • Ability to remove and replace valves
  • Knowledge of precise and repeated motions when working in a control room
  • Well-versed in reading charts, meters and gauges to monitor electricity flow
  • Proficient in preparing and processing gas for utility companies
