JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Gas Storage Attendant is expected to perform include:

  • Operating pumps and equipment to store gas
  • Maintaining constant pressure in gas storage tanks and compensating for withdrawal of gas by commercial users by observing pressure gauges on tanks
  • Pumping replacement quantities into tank as needed
  • Observing pressure gauges on storage tanks to determine need for increasing or decreasing pressure
  • Opening valves in gas-​ lines and permitting gas to flow in and out of pumps
  • Adjusting valves on gas or steam engines or throwing electric switch to control appropriate high or low pressure pumps for achieving desired pressure
  • Reading gas meters and recording amount of gas received and dispensed from holders
  • Adjusting and lubricating pumps and prime movers​

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 3

Preferably, diploma in chemical engineering

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Ability to process gas for utility companies or industrial plants
  • Knowledge of panel boards, control boards and semi-automatic equipment
  • Well-versed with monitoring transportation and storage of flammable gases
  • Proficient in calculating gas ratios and changing charts in recording meters
  • Ability to refill propane tanks, check pressure gauges and restock supplies
  • Knowledge of adjusting governors to maintain desired pressure
