The tasks an Animal Health Worker is expected to perform include:

  • Implementing contagious disease control programmes
  • Providing basic first aid services to farm animals and poultry
  • Assisting government agencies in animal disease control
  • Assisting veterinary extension services
  • Assisting in animal welfare, breed conservation and disaster management

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1
  • Preferably, 8th pass
  • Certified training for Animal Health Worker (programme aligned to AGR/Q4804 released by Agriculture Skill Council of India)
KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Basic knowledge of animal behaviour, possible stimulus and negative responses
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines in animal handling
  • Equipped to use data collection tools
  • Knowledge of prevalent diseases 
  • Skilled in pre-and post-vaccination care including handling of possible emergencies
  • Basic knowledge of concepts of disease prevention in wild free-range animals
  • Skilled in using physical examination tools 
  • Basic knowledge of routes of transmission of common diseases in animals
  • Knowledge of procedure and complication or precautions of dehorning, de-beaking, hoof trimming and tooth rasping
  • Knowledge of common feed ingredients or fodder variety 
  • Knowledge of basics of animal housing and farm infrastructure
