JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Mason General is expected to perform include: 
  • Performing routine masonry works such as brickwork, block work, laying paver blocks and random rubble masonry works
  • Plastering with simple finishes by using appropriate tools and equipment with dimensional accuracy
  • Carrying out waterproofing works for structures using cementitious materials
  • Carrying out IPS/Tremix flooring
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1
  • It is not a desk job
  • The candidate will supervise a team of Masons Level-2 and other helpers 
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job profile
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs maybe available
  • Work from home option is not available
 
Working hours
  • Companies usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company 
  • Overtime maybe required 
  • Shift system is not available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1
  • Minimum – Equivalent to minimum 5th standard
  • Certified training for Mason General (programme aligned to CON/Q0103 job released by Construction Skill Development Council)
 
KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Basic knowledge of principles of measurement
  • Skilled in using basic levelling tools in the masonry trade
  • Ability to use the 3-4-5 method for squaring corners
  • Skilled in laying and fixing brick/blocks in position
  • Knowledge of size of gist and joints
  • Familiar with cement mix proportion and its importance
  • Knowledge of arch component and terminology
  • Skilled in techniques for repairing and finishing
  • Knowledge of various types of pointing in brick masonry and its application
  • Familiar with different mortar mix used for pointing
  • Knowledge of gradation of sand for internal plasters
  • Basic knowledge of different types of plasters
  • Skilled in methods and techniques for plastering internal and external masonry and RCC structures
  • Familiar with types and specification of waterproofing compounds
  • Knowledge of rubble masonry
  • Skilled in Tremix flooring
 
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1

Training for 8 to 12 weeks to qualify test & assessment by authorized agency for behaviour, knowledge & skill as per all relevant NOS for General Mason Level‐3
