JOB DESCRIPTION 

The tasks a Laboratory Technician Physical is expected to perform include: 

  • Preparing steel samples, testing them for different physical properties against national/international standards
  • Recording the physical properties and reporting them to the concerned department of the steel plant
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • It is not a desk job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job profile
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are not available

Working hours
  • Working hours are 8/9 hours a day for 5/6 days a week. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 
  • Minimum – B.Sc. (with Physics as a subject) pass/Dip. in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical) pass
  • Certified training for Laboratory Technician Physical (programme aligned to ISC/Q0801 job released by Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council)
KEY COMPETENCIES 
  • Skilled in operating machines, equipment, tools and tackles used in sample preparation
  • Knowledge of technical implications of tests and their impact on product/process
  • Skilled in handling basic computer operations
  • Knowledge of micro-structures
  • Skilled in cleaning, lubricating, attending to basic maintenance requirements of the machines
