JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Fireman is expected to perform include: 
  • Preventing hazardous fires in the mine areas
  • Rescuing the mine workers from any hazardous fires and putting out the same
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1
  • It is a field job
  • Need not handle a team 
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are not available
  • Work from home option is not available 
 
Working hours
  • Companies usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company 
  • Overtime maybe required 
  • Shift system maybe available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1
  • Minimum – Class XII
  • Certified training for Fireman (programme aligned to MIN/Q0439 job released by Skill Council for Mining Sector)
 
KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Basic knowledge of different types of mines
  • Knowledge of dimensions and loading limits of vehicles
  • Knowledge of different types of sources of fire like frictional fires, electrical fires, explosives, oil spills, blasting, etc.
  • Familiar with different types of fire safety equipment
  • Knowledge of mine rescue rules 1985
  • Knowledge of ‘K’ type of fires
  • Knowledge of emergency preparedness plan, mock drills, etc.
 
DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES 1
  • Training in different firefighting techniques used in organizations
  • Training in problem-solving techniques
  • Training in quality management systems
  • Training in 5S and safety management
