JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Civil Engineer, General is expected to perform include:

Planning, organizing and supervising construction
-
Supervising repairing of buildings, highways, dams, bridges, tunnels, canals, aerodromes, towers, etc. with or without assistance of Architect or other specialised civil engineers
-
Preparing or getting sketches, plans etc. of project prepared by Architect
-
Visiting areas for preliminary survey, selection of size, and collection of necessary data
-
Preparing designs, detailed drawings and estimating of cost with assistance of Draftsmen
-
Arranging for required materials, machinery, labour and commencement of work at site
-
Ensuring correct execution of work according to specifications at every stage of progress
-
Checking at site, measurements taken by overseer for preparation and payments of bill
-
Inspecting and examining structure, completion of work to ensure its conformity with prescribed specification
-
Calling for tenders and awarding work to one or more contractors
-
Undertaking maintenance, development or remodelling work

Working hours- Construction companies usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

Minimum – Degree in Civil Engineering |

Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology

Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models

Adept in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications

Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads
-
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modelling, leadership technique and production methods
-
Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions
