JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Sub - Inspector, Police is expected to perform include:
  • Maintaining law and order in his jurisdiction, investigating crimes, arresting criminals, protecting persons and property from hazards of unlawful acts 
  • Controlling staff working in police station
  • Allotting duties to Police Constables and other staff working under him
  • Familiarising himself with persons in his area and acquainting himself with local problems
  • Studying records of notorious and bad characters and keeping watch over their activities
  • Receiving intelligence reports and other information through official and private sources and taking action or disseminates them to appropriate authorities for instructions
  • Supervising patrolling and checking duties of Sentries
  • Taking action to prevent crime, wherever possible
  • Examining first information reports and complaints lodged in police station, investigating situation and taking appropriate action such as issuing warnings or making arrests
  • Investigating crimes and submitting report to higher authorities
  • Supplying relevant information to Public Prosecutor in conduct of criminal cases
  • Inspecting kits of Police Constables and drilling his subordinates on fixed days
  • Keeping control over police out-posts under his charge and maintaining law and order in public functions
  • Presenting criminal cases in court
WORK ENVIRONMENT 1
  • It is not a desk job
  • The candidate will supervise a team of Police Constables and other Staff
  • Local travelling is necessary
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are not available

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 4

Minimum – Bachelor’s Degree in any stream and PST/PET cleared

KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Basic knowledge of the law and law enforcement in the state
  • Skilled in investigating a case and making valid arrests in the jurisdiction
  •  Ability to manage his/her team of constables, assistant sub-inspectors, etc.
  • Skilled in arranging drills for the police force from time to time
  • Ability to acquaint him/herself with the area of jurisdiction quickly
  • Skilled in investigating a case on the basis of FIRs issued and taking necessary action
  • Knowledge of preventive measure that can be taken against crime
  • Skilled in reporting a case to senior authorities in detail and assisting the public prosecutor, if required
  • Ability to take charge of a police station/post and make sure that every official follows the code of conduct
  • Physically fit
