JOB DESCRIPTION 1
The tasks a Brick layer, Refractory is expected to perform include:
  • Building and repairing furnaces, ovens, kilns, fireboxes, fire places and other high temperature structures
  • Spreading minimum possible fireclay mortar evenly over furnace with trowel and laying and taping fire bricks or refractory blocks in position
  • Sealing joints with fireclay mortar or chemically resistant cement to bind bricks together making provision for expansion of joints in furnace in linings
  • Preparing support to proper curvature to replace arched roofs of furnaces or to construct new ones as directed or specified
  • Patching portions of furnaces with fireclay, as necessary and removing excess mortar
  • Specializing in building and repairing particular type of high temperature construction
  • Replacing linings of ladles or tapping sports of furnaces
  • Building new smoke tunnels

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 2

  • It is a not desk job

  • Need not handle a team

  • Local travelling is a part of this job role

  • Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

  • Work from home option is not available

ITI graduate

 

KEY COMPETENCIES 
  • Knowledge of construction equipment and tools, brick laying
  • Knowledge about availability, quality and appropriate use of construction materials
  • Knowledge of selecting chisels, pneumatic or surfacing tools and determining sequence of use
  • Competent in handling construction related equipment  accurately
  • Knowledgeable about safety measures at work
  • Ability to read blueprints
