JOB DESCRIPTION 1

The tasks a Construction Painter and Decorator is expected to perform include:

  • Painting on masonry, metallic and wooden surfaces to produce a decorative finish
  • Applying OBD, acrylic and emulsion paints on various finished masonry surfaces​
  • Applying, paint , varnish and polish on wooden windows, doors, partitions, panels and other wooden surfaces
  • Carrying out minor repair of common painting faults​

  • It is not a desk job
  • Need not handle a team
  • Local travelling is not a part of this job role
  • Part-time work and contractual jobs may be available

Working hours

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 1
  • Preferably, 5th
  • Certified training in Construction Painter and Decorator (programme aligned to CON/Q0503 released by Construction Skill  Development Council)
KEY COMPETENCIES 1
  • Skilled in applying ​OBD, acryllic and emulsion paint, varnish, etc. on masonary ​surface, fabricated assemblies, wooden windows, doors, partitions, panels and other wooden surfaces 
  • Knowledge of inspecting work pieces to determine work procedures and materials required​
  • ​Proficient in selecting and mixing paint materials or pigment, oils and other ingredients in proper proportions to obtain desired colour, shade and consistency
  • Well-versed with cleaning surfaces with brush, cloth or abrasive material
  • Adept at filling cracks and holes with putty or filler to provide smooth, clean surface
  • Well-versed with raising, draining or wiping coated work area to remove excess coating material or to facilitate setting of finish coats on work area
  • Knowledge of rubbing or covering surfaces with appropriate prime coat to have suitable base or surface for painting
  • Proficient in using hand brush to cover surface with enamel, lacquer, paint, stain or varnish 
  • Adept at examining finished surfaces of work pieces to verify conformance to specifications and retouching any defective areas
  • Training period of 8 to 12 weeks for Construction Painter and Decorator
