JOB DESCRIPTION ¹

The tasks a Layerman is expected to perform include:

Inspecting the fabric to identify the presence of any basic fabric faults
Laying and cutting the fabric as per specified length before the fabric is passed on to the parts cutting stage
Reducing the fabric wastage

WORK ENVIRONMENT ^{1, 2}

It is a bench job
Need not handle a team
Local travelling is not a part of this job role
Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

Working hours

Organizations usually work for 5/6 days a week for 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from organization to organization

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING ¹

Preferably, 5^th
Certified training for Layerman (programme aligned to AMH/0201 released by Apparel, Made Up’s and Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council)

KEY COMPETENCIES ¹

Knowledge of fabric laying procedures like flat spread, stepped spreads, etc.
Knowledge of the markers and the significance of the shading
Knowledge of splicing, end-bits, off-cuts, bowing, etc.
Competent in fabric folding procedures and significance
Proficient in techniques for reducing fabric wastage
Knowledge of procedure to fill in a lay sheet

DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES ¹

Training on fabric and garment cutting
Detail-oriented
